This is Jiu-Jitsu with the guesswork taken out. A complete curriculum, four days of instruction a week, and a game that tests what you learned.
What this is
A Jiu-Jitsu academy.
You learn one position at a time and train it through the week with everybody else. At the end of the week you play a real game built on that position, with a score and your name on the board.
Adults, teenagers and kids. No experience needed, and you can start any week of the year.
We train no gi. Every player has a uniform, a fitted training top and shorts in their league's colours. On your first day, a t-shirt and shorts is fine.
How the training is built
One position at a time.
Monday to Thursday you learn one position: where you are, what both people are trying to do, and what your options are. By the end of the week you do not have a move, you have a map of that position.
Instruction runs four days a week, Monday to Thursday. Every class works on the same position from a different angle. One class is positional control, holding the position once you have it. One is escapes, getting out when the other person has it. One is transitions, moving from that position into the next one. One is submissions, finishing from it. We teach all relevant techniques from both the top and bottom positions.
The positions connect. Passing the guard—getting past the other person's legs—ends where holding a pin—keeping them flat on the mat—begins. Escaping a pin puts you back in guard, with your legs between you and the other person.
There are four levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Pro. You move up when you meet the standard and a coach confirms it.
Game day
Game day.
Games run at the end of the week. Two teams. Everybody plays everybody. Nobody sits out. Your points go on your team's total and every round is recorded.
